Mr. Experimental Carousel!!

It’s not often one gets to take a picture of a glorious subject like this gentleman. He is soft spoken and very polite but very guarded as well. We’ve seen him around Boston in various places, often very far apart. What makes him so interesting to me is that he is always dressed exactly the same way whenever we see him. I don’t know his backstory yet but one of these days I will.

I was waiting on the sidewalk in Chinatown for my wife to run an errand when I spied these ladies huddled together down the block. I’m not sure they knew I was taking their photograph but they were definitely checking out this outsider.

Is That A Camera?

The beauty of a Ricoh GR for street photography is that you can take a picture and move on before your subject is really aware of what’s going on.

Street Savy Face

Walking city streets as much as I do, helps me to see interesting faces more clearly. I passed this man on Charles Street early this morning. He was sitting quietly with his hands folded, in a very relaxed pose. However his eyes told a very different story.

Looking At Me

In todays’ digital age a lot of people, including me, place a good deal of stress on just getting noticed. Sure the photo above is an arresting image¬† but if that’s all it is, that’s not enough.

If I told you that I was watching this guy from the time he got on the subway for a chance to take his picture. However, because he didn’t look overly friendly I wasn’t sure I could do it without a possible altercation.

I came up with this plan. Since my seat was right next to a door, if he got off before I did, there was a chance a picture could be snapped while his attention was on stepping off the car.

As luck would have it, he did leave one stop earlier then I and although he caught a quick glimpse of my little Ricoh GR camera he got off the car without incident.

A little more context never hurts. Thus ends the lesson.

The Very Big Sneeze

I saw this coming about ten steps away. When the photo finally got taken the sneeze had just happened and he was taking his tee-shirt away from his nose. I would have liked to have been able to take this shot a second or so earlier but I wasn’t close enough. I’m categorizing this as a “good but could have been better”.
