As darkness descends and starts to blot out what was once more easily seen, lighted windows provide keyholes to the interior lives of our backyard neighbors.

My wife Sarah’s father used to have this saying …”Another day of glorious opportunity”. Sometimes it’s hard for most of us to feel quite that optimistic but the golden light of morning certainly helps.


Mr. Hopper’s Window


We were having breakfast the other day in a restaurant that looked out on Monterey Bay. In the corner of the place was this window. Edward Hopper would have loved it;

Beacon Hill Sunset


As those of us who like to take photographs know, the “golden hour” doesn’t last very long. This picture was taken just as day was transitioning into darkness. What I like about the scene is the juxtaposition of two the light sources, gas lamp and setting sun.
