Tea Room Cafe

I’m really not too sure of this one. I like the woman’s pose a lot. It’s the other elements that I’m unsure of. There’s a bunch of squares and rectangles above her in the background. I’m thinking if it was just her and the table things would be better. If I knew how to use photoshop I’d take some of that background noise out.

Speaking of photoshop, does anyone out there know a good online tutorial for using it?

I agree with you. I would have liked to have seen a little separation between her and the frame above her head. The upper left hand corner threw me for a while: at first I thought it must be a mirror, but now I think it’s a view over a half wall into another part of the dining area. I do like the perspective of the two group of condiments on the tables, and I like the b & w treatment.
For photoshop, try Anthony Morganti on youtube and see what you think.

I actually like this very much as is, and yet I do understand what you say about the background.
There are some amazing Photoshop tutorials (classes for beginners through advanced) on lynda.com. It is a subscription service, but there is also a free trial period. Another great place is KelbyOne Training (also subscription, free trial period).

Just my opinion, and from my own experience…Learn the very basics (basic tools and layers), and then play, play, play. I wish you the very best.

Thanks Lisa! Your help re the tutorials is very much appreciated. I’ve looked at both and I think I’ll try Kelby at the outset. Also your point about just learning the basics and then playing around is very valid. To be honest I’ve used Lightroom almost exclusively up until now and it probably is time to move up the food chain a bit. Thanks again…John
