Here in Boston we have a very large and well thought out central public library. In its main lobby, beside having a fine display of books, there is a coffee shop and, of all things, a radio and tv station. On certain days you can go in and watch or listen to a PBS program. My photo here is of a radio and tv host named Jim Braude doing a call in show. (His co-host Margery Egan is not in the picture.)
Sitting comfortably surrounded by books, sipping coffee and watching a radio broadcast plays with my head a bit. The feeling I have is of the density of information that I now have constantly available and its tangential obligation to use it wisely.
Is the western world currently in a period of media overload? I’m not sure but, it bears thinking about.
